Today, we are shattered by an unimaginable tragedy. Senator John Hoffman isn't just a colleague. He's a friend, a role model, and a perfect example of what a great legislator is. He's someone who always takes the time to look out for staff, to check in, to make people feel like they matter. Knowing he was hurt in such a senseless act of violence is something that has been incredibly devastating. The loss of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman is an irreparable tragedy. She dedicated everything to help make Minnesota a better place to live. She deserved to be apart of the future she was working toward. This a painful reminder that political violence has no place in our society.
